When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular company. On their end, 3 records are created automatically right after the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that manages the emails for that specific domain address. The site and the email hosting are typically regarded as one thing, while they're actually two different services. Having independent records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you wish. As an example, some new provider can have fantastic uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain address to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an email - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed website or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you have a shared web hosting plan from our company, you are going to be able to see, create and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify specific records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails pointed to another provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will permit you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you decide to use the email services of a different company and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do it with simply a couple of clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with our semi-dedicated hosting plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for any of the domains or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is incredibly easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and in case you experience any issues, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you 100 % control over all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're switching your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
