DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an authentication system used to check that an email message has been sent by an authorized server or individual. An e-signature is added to the header of the email message using a private key. When the email message is received, a public key that is available in the global Domain Name System is used to verify who exactly sent it and whether the content has been changed in any way. The prime job of DomainKeys Identified Mail is to avert the widely spread scam and spam messages, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank or financial institution, for example, but the signature doesn’t correspond, you will either not receive the message at all, or you’ll receive it with a notification that most probably it is not a legitimate one. It depends on mail service providers what exactly will happen with an email that fails to pass the signature test. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also give you an extra safety layer when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, since they can see for themselves that all the messages that you exchange are genuine and haven’t been tampered with on their way.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Shared Web Hosting

If you host a domain in a shared web hosting account from our company, all the obligatory records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail option will be set up by default. This will happen as soon as you add the domain name in the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, on the condition that it also uses our NS resource records. A private cryptographic key will be created on our email servers, while a public key will be published to the global Domain Name System automatically by using the TXT record. In this way, you will not have to do anything manually and you will be able to take full advantage of all the benefits of this email authentication system – your emails will be sent to any target audience without being discarded and no one will be able to send out messages faking your email addresses. The latter is quite important if the essence of your web presence suggests sending regular newsletters or offers via email to potential and existing customers.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

All mandatory DKIM records will be created automatically by our cloud hosting platform when you add a domain as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so if you choose to buy a semi-dedicated hosting package, you won’t need to configure anything to be able to take advantage of the email validation system. The domain must use our name servers in order for its DNS records to be managed by our company and as long as this precondition is fulfilled, a private key will be created on our mail servers and a public key will be added to the global Domain Name System by a special TXT resource record. All email addresses that you set up with the domain name will be protected by DKIM, which will make it impossible for third parties to forge any email address. Both you and your colleagues or clients can benefit from this option, since it will ensure a much higher level of safety for your email correspondence.
